Today, at the UN climate conference COP23 in Bonn, IDH’s landscape work was featured in a report released by WWF on the important role of jurisdictional approaches in achieving sustainable development goals.
The report is a result of a three-day workshop onTackling Deforestation Through A Jurisdictional Approach: Lessons From The Field, where WWF convened leading practitioners, including IDH, to deeply explore five jurisdictional pilots, focusing on what is working, what is presenting difficulties—and why. IDH landscape programs inBrazilandLiberiawere among the case studies discussed in depth, providing insights to the literature on responsible commodity production as a way to mitigate deforestation and climate change.
The report identifies political leadership, participatory design, sustainable financing, private sector role, storytelling and expectation management as key components of a successful jurisdictional approach.
